What to bring, what happens at your first appointment, and how to prepare — so your first visit is spent on your heart, not on paperwork.
A first cardiology appointment is mostly conversation and examination. Your cardiologist will ask about your symptoms, your medical and family history, and what you can manage physically, then examine you and usually record an ECG.
Further testing is arranged only where it will answer a specific question. Many patients need nothing beyond an ECG and blood tests on the first visit.
Plan for about 45 minutes. You will leave knowing what we think is happening, what happens next, and when we will see you again.
The more complete this is, the more your cardiologist can do in one visit rather than two:
If you cannot gather everything, come anyway. Bring what you have and our team will request the rest from your other physicians.

Do not stop any cardiac medication before your appointment. If something is causing side effects, raise it at the visit and it can be changed safely.
A first consultation follows a predictable shape, and nothing is done without explaining it first.
A detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical background, family history, and how much activity you can manage comfortably.
A physical examination including blood pressure, pulse, heart sounds, and a check for swelling or circulation changes.
A quick, painless recording of your heart's electrical activity, usually done in the room during the same visit.
An echocardiogram, stress test, or heart monitor may be arranged — most of it performed on site rather than sent elsewhere.
